G-BIACK Trains NAEC Lecturers from Afghanistan
G-BIACK staff with intern group from Afghanistan A group from Afghanistan spent a month studying the GROW BIOINTENSIVE method at the GROW BIOINTENSIVE Agriculture Centre of Kenya (G-BIACK). The twelve Afghans are lecturers at the National Agriculture and Education Centre (NAEC) in Afghanistan. NAEC is an affiliate of the Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation (CDI) at the Wageningen University in the Netherlands, and the two organizations are working together to improve agricultural vocational education in Afghanistan where over thirty years of war have resulted in heavy damage to the agricultural sector in general, and to agricultural education in particular. The twelve lecturers are in the process of developing a national agricultural curriculum for high schools in Afghanistan. This curriculum will include GROW BIOINTENSIVE techniques in addition to other agricultural practices. While at G-BIACK the group had the opportunity to visit local farmers and other agricultural-based institutions and also received training in the use of solar cookers, solar dehydrators, seed-saving techniques and rainwater harvesting methods. top | Newsletter Home | Article Index | Archive
