GROW BIOINTENSIVE Workshops

  • 3-Day GROW BIOINTENSIVESM Sustainable Mini-Farming Workshop will be held in Willits, California, on March 1-3, 2019, and November 1-3 2019. The workshops will be given by John Jeavons and Ecology Action staff, apprentices and interns, and will include an afternoon of demonstrations.

    Cost for 3-day Workshop:  $325 – $375  per person depending on the time of registration, plus approximately $75 for publications. Workshop manual is included in the price of registration. Lunches and a networking dinner are included, but lodging and other meals are not. These are good opportunities to be exposed to over 43 years of  GROW BIOINTENSIVE work in just a few days. Send a large self-addressed envelope with 61 cents postage for complete details and registration form, or complete our online Registration Form.

  • One 3-Day GROW BIOINTENSIVESM Sustainable Mini-Farming Basic-Level Teacher
    Certification Workshop
    will be held in Mendocino, CA on August 2-4, 2019. Prerequisites for attending a teachers workshop are completion of an introductory 3-Day Workshop and an active
    practice of GROW BIOINTENSIVE techniques. The application deadline is April 15 and the cost is $100. For more information click here to download Booklet #30  After you have read Booklet #30, if you want to attend the workshop, please write for further details. Your letter of application for this workshop should include your experience with GROW BIOINTENSIVE to date, what you are doing with GB this year and how you intend to use your potential certification as a GB teacher in the future. In addition, you should list the dates on which you completed each prerequisite. Thanks for your interest in becoming a GB certified teacher!

  • In 2019, multi-day workshops (some Biointensive, some on other subjects) in Spanish will be held in Veracruz State in Mexico as follows:
    • Jan  25-27-- 3-Day Workshop in GROW BIOINTENSIVE method
    • Feb 11-16-- 6-Day Workshop in Agroecology and the GROW BIOINTENSIVE method
    • Mar 4-9 -- 6-Day Workshop on Las Cañadas - Un proyecto de vida rural
    • Mar 27-30 -- 4-Day Workshop on Producción agroecológica de huevo (agroecological egg production)
    • May 9-10 – 5 Day Workshop on Seed production and propagation of plants
    • Jul 1- Aug 4 -- Formacion Intensiva en Agroecologia (Intensive Course in Agroecology)
    Dec 27-29-- 3-Day Introduccion a la Vida Sostenible (Introduction to Sustainable Living) Workshop

Tours of Biointensive Mini-Farm Garden Site(s)

There will be one 5- to 6-hour Victory Gardens for Peace Mini-Farm Tour in Mendocino, CA on Sunday, May 5, 2019. These tours give a good introduction to GROW BIOINTENSIVE® sustainable mini-farming, what our practical research site is accomplishing, and how our sustainable method relates to world agriculture. 

Tours  include participant introductions; a discussion of the overall world challenges that humankind faces in the areas of soil, food, and nutrition;  an exploration of the connection between thinking globally and acting locally; a tour of the garden and discussion of several crops in particular; and 30-minute mini-classes on double-digging, composting, seed propagation, sustainable home garden crops, and  cooking with solar ovens given by staff, apprentices and interns.

The tour begins at 10 AM and end at approximately 4 PM.

The registration fee is $25 per person. It is $15 for members or those who join at registration or make a $20 or more donation with registration. Tour fees are not tax-deductible . Please pre-register as soon as possible (2 months ahead is best); space is limited.

NOTE: Our Jeavons Center and Golden Rule sites in Willits, CA are working Research Mini-Farms, and our staff is not able to accommodate drop-in visitors. The sites are open to the public only on scheduled dates (currently no dates are scheduled for 2019 for those sites).

Special tours may sometimes be arranged for groups of 10 or more persons having a strong interest in GROW BIOINTENSIVE  sustainable mini-farming.  Write for details and describe your interests.  

Children not involved in the tours often find the event difficult, so please check with us in advance if you plan to bring children with you, and please do not bring pets to the tour.

Information and Registration

The Victory Gardens for Peace Mini-Farm is a non-profit seed bank located at the Stanford Inn in Mendocino. The fruit born from the partnership of Ecology Action and the Stanford Inn continues to inspire and enrich the lives in our community and abroad. The garden has been a place of learning for people from around the world and the site of some very important research and development in the growing of soil, food, and community. The garden also hosts several Ecology Action training programs, internships, and apprenticeships. Victory Gardens for Peace Seed Bank Exchange connects gardeners and farmers through the saving of seeds and offers over 200 varieties of rare, locally adapted heirloom seed grown out by our community, available to anyone free of charge.
